48 hours in Catanduanes: What Places to visit

There’s more in Catanduanes than being a typhoon-friendly place. Yes, it is usually the starting point of tropical storms entering Philippines, and yes, strong winds & heavy rains may always pass this island, but let me tell you this: These typhoons are actually blessings in disguise. They are the reason why Catanduanes is a beauty you cannot imagine.


I’m shouting my heart out here! I tell you, this island is perfectly beautiful. And take note, unlike most tourist destinations, this place is at a distance from stressful crowd. You can own the whole place, since there are just a few people who had discovered this island’s beauty. So what are you waiting for?

We had 48 hours to explore the place. WHAT?!! Just 48 hours?! –Yep, JUST. 48. HOURS. Super bitin-like oa! But we went home with a happy heart. We explored places that I will never find in Manila. Places that are so surreal!! Check them out:

Binurong Point

One of the best! My mouth literally dropped when I saw the majestic view of Binurong Point. Believe me, I’m not exaggerating. It is the most beautiful view I’ve ever witnessed on top of a mountain. I felt like I was on top of the world surrounded by the most beautiful mountain ranges and seascapes. Ahhhhhh, I can stay here forever!

Carorian Wonders

Imagine being in a different world, as if you’re in some kind of a beautiful planet far away from Earth. Ghad, I felt that feeling when I visited one of the 7 islands in Carorian Wonders. The whole view is beyond amazing. White island rock formations, pristine blue waters, amazing landscape, this place is perfectly one for the books!

As I’ve mentioned earlier, this is just one of the amazing 7 islands of Carorian Wonders. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to visit the other 6 due to lack of time. So just a tip, arrive early in this place for you to maximize and visit the 7 islands. It only requires half a day to complete them!

Twin Rock Beach

After a tiring day, you deserve a relaxing getaway to one of the most alluring beach in town! Twin Rock Beach is just minutes away from the heart of Virac, Catanduanes’ Capital. It may be close to the municipality, but it is still away from the hustle and bustle of the town! You will totally escape from the crowd.

The beach features this Maldives-like cottages, which literally floats on waters. It also offers various fun activities such as a mini cliff dive, ziplines, kayaking, and many more! Oh diba, your experience will not just be relaxing, but super fun as well!

Puraran Beach

Calling all surfing lovers! A crowd-less surfing spot is just right around the corner in Catanduanes- totally a a pure surf lover’s dream getaway spot! It has one of the best waves perfect for a fun surfing activity!

The beach place also has several surfing tutorials and surfing boards for rent for a reasonable amount! For beginners, you have surfer masters to teach you. And don’t worry you can learn how to surf for less than an hour! So you don’t have any reason for you not to try this activity ha!!

 Bato Church

A sneak peak of the past: this church is the only remaining structure of its genre in the whole Catanduanes. It has survived wars and it is currently remaining strong! ASTIG!!

1. Ride a bus bound to:

  • either to Virac, Catanduanes
  • or to Tabaco City, Albay
  • Travel time: 10-12HRS

2. From the seaport of Tabaco, hop on either at MV Calixta 2, 4 and 5 or MV Eugene Elson to reach the island of Catanduanes via San Andres or Virac seaport.

Catanduanes is absolutely a perfect destination away from the usual tourists vacation & the busy city of Manila. It offers everything- Historical sites, pristine beaches, jaw dropping landscapes & fun activities!!
