For two consecutive years until 2017, Boracay has been crowned the best island in the world by Conde Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice Awards. This year, Boracay ranked second to Siargao, followed by Palawan, in the top three Best in Asia subcategory as determined by the publication’s 2018 Reader’s Choice Awards. The magazine described Boracay as top tourist destination in Asia with “gentle coastlines,” “transportive sunsets,” and “thriving nightlife scene.”
Earlier this year, President Rodrigo Duterte had ordered the 6-month closure of Boracay to rehabilitate the island after suffering from environmental problems. During the shutdown, travelers who booked their flights to Boracay had to reroute and/or wait for the reopening of the island. Six months later, the long wait was finally over. Boracay once again opened its white sand beaches to the public last October 26, 2018. With its rejuvenated shores, pristine blue waters, and cleaner surroundings, now is the perfect time to rediscover the beauty Boracay has to offer!

Experience a smooth sailing trip.
I was fortunate enough to be a part of the launch of Mabuhay Maritime Express. We got to experience a roundtrip to Batangas with Manila as our starting point. The trip took one hour and a half which is equivalent to the travel time of the Kalibo to Boracay trip. As a person who commonly gets seasick, I must commend Mabuhay Maritime Express for being the first ferry to let me experience a sea trip without getting dizzy or feeling sick. The ferry was fast yet steady the whole trip. I did not feel any kind of wooziness. I actually enjoyed every second of it. I even got to savor the beauty of sunset on our way back. It was such a wonderful experience and the sunset was absolutely breathtaking.
MME offers a wide range of available seats.
Mabuhay Maritime Express initially launched two vessels namely MV Malambing and MV Magalang. Each vessel is 410-seater and the vessels have three seating sections. Located in the upper deck are the First Class and Premium sections, while the Regular section is located on the main deck. The First Class and Premium Class have reclining seats. Meanwhile, passengers of the Regular Class can choose group seating arrangements. There are plenty of wall outlets for the passengers to use. One of the perks of being on the First Class, however, is you get to have a special USB charging port. There are seat trays, seat pockets, life jackets, and restrooms available for everyone. The capacity of the First Class is 54 passengers, the Premium Class’ capacity is 70 passengers, while the Regular Class can accommodate as much as 286 passengers.
It’s affordable and hassle-free.
Gone are the days of the exhausting journey from Kalibo to Boracay. Before, travelers who want to go to Boracay from Kalibo had to ride a shuttle first, then transfer to a boat that would take them to the island. You have to travel by land from Kalibo to Caticlan, then travel across Tabon Strait from Caticlan Jetty Port to Cagban Jetty Port in Boracay. The travel time usually takes two and a half hours. Sometimes, more. By the time you get to Boracay, you are already tired and cranky. Believe me, it was tedious in every way. But with Mabuhay Maritime Express, the trip from Kalibo to Boracay is cut down to only an hour and a half travel time. Plus, you get to be comfortable and safe at an affordable price!
Here are the roundtrip fares of each service class for your reference:
- FIRST CLASS – P2,500
- PREMIUM – P2,000
- REGULAR – P1,500
